So... after putting it off for a while (a week. And it was only because my mom was out of town and I was still in school) I went dress shopping. Also, I've posted. See! I can't really say anything about the dresses because Matt reads this and I don't want him to know. I also think he doesn't want to know. (Matt, "This is true.") I had fun and am going to go again tomorrow. My mom went with me. I was worried about how much she would try to influence my opinion (This worry may have come after I started watching Say Yes to the Dress at my in-laws) but she has continued to surprise me with how much she is letting me take charge. Though fun, I've learned I'm kinda indecisive and that makes decision making/planning really difficult.
Today my mom and I were talking about where exactly the reception should be. I want it outside. An outdoor evening reception in late July will be nice right? I really don't know. Its not like I have any experience in this sort of thing. :) I'm learning as I go and trying not to get too stressed about any of it.
After going to a couple of bridal dress places in Boise, my mom and I decided to go to the mall. There is a dress shop there that has some beautiful dresses, but the lady working didn't understand English very well. We left after a couple minutes after trying to explain to her how modest we needed the dress to be... ie: no laced up backs. (I didn't think we'd find anything there, but wanted to look anyway) Shoes and Jewelery took some more time and we found some possibilities. I need to find comfortable white high heels. Matt's too tall for me to want to wear flats.
Then again, all that is so low on the priority list. I'm excited for and trying to focus on the fact that Matt and I will be sealed for time and all eternity. I feel so young and sometimes insecure to be making such a big step in my life, but know it is the most important choice I'll ever get to follow through with. I'm so thrilled! Life is beautiful.
Mignon McLaughlin wrote that, "Love unlocks doors and opens windows that weren't even there before." I feel as though I have to express my gratitude for the opportunity I have to marry my best friend. I dedicate this page to my future husband, Matthew. Thank you for loving me despite my flaws. I look forward to exploring what lays beyond those open windows and doors with you for eternity.

Preparation: Apartment Searching
Matt and I started looking at apartments on Craigslist. Little did I know what an adventure that would start to become. For instance, when you see a title like, "$375 / 2br - PriceReduced!! Two Bedroom. Tile Flooring. Near BSU!!!" You'd think it would be OK. Maybe even good. And then you click and hurriedly click the browser's back button when it ends up being this gem:
There are literally rust stains running down the side of it :) I laugh when we get these posts because Matt's reaction is priceless. He literally moves backwards. To make it better, I saw this same one posted under the title, "Cute Cozy Two Bedroom...."
We'll keep looking.

Temple Marriage
Getting married in the temple has been a goal I've had since I was just a little girl. Its the palace in which I'll be married to my Prince Charming under the blessing of my Heavenly Father.

The Proposal
If you ask him, he'll just tell you to ask me, so here goes...
Once upon a time Matt was planning a proposal. I knew it was coming, but still loved that he was trying to keep it a surprise. On April 22, 2011, we set a date to go out to eat at Tucanos (delicious Brazilian food!). After greedily filling our stomachs, we thought it wise to go to Walmart to get some gum to freshen up meaty mouths. (trust me, this was a good idea) While there, Matt sneakily texted some people while in the restroom so I wouldn't know what was going on. We walked out to the car where I was then blindfolded, rather unsuccessfully. Trusting me, he allowed me to just close my eyes. He drove me to our destination and had me hold his arm as he guided me with shuttered eyes. It turns out I'm quite clumsy without my sight. Eventually we stopped near running water and he had me step onto a step and turn around. Nervously (and he hates that I tell this part), he said, "Ok, sit down... no wait, stand up!) At this point he then told me to open my eyes. I was standing at the edge of a fountain at the temple. He had arranged for lilies and roses to be placed along the fountain edge with little tags tied to them with the printed words, "Will you marry me?" I didn't see any of this until later though, because in front of me was the love of my life, shakily on one knee speaking the words, "Will you marry me?" I said yes, obviously. Then his mom and sisters (and one brother in law) walked from where they had been standing to welcome me to the family. I was shaking and laughing and sooo excited. Then I saw my parents walk around the corner of the temple. My mom approached me first with watery red-rimmed eyes and rosy cheeks, telling me that my father had been crying. I gave her a hug and turned to my father. He's always been a softy. He used to almost cry just looking at my baby pictures and talking about how much and how quickly I'd grown. I hugged him a couple of times. (The texting in Walmart was to let them all know that we were on our way) Then it was time for pictures.....that was fun. (There might be a slightly awkward one of me pushing Matt's behind out of my face with a look of disgust.... maybe.) So there you have it: I'm engaged.

Mountain Dew, Kisses, and 'Our Song'
I slightly ashamedly admit that our first kiss was not while we were dating. I don't, however, regret it. After a night of lifeguarding from midnight to four in the morning and a lot of mountain dew on New Years day, Matt came out to where my car was parked. We talked for a while before I asked, "Are you going to kiss me?" He told me ladies first, but I chickened out. He eventually did just that. He kissed me. My first kiss. And it was on New Years! Romantic, huh?! :)
Our song is Are You Gonna Kiss Me or Not by Thompson Square. I think most people can see how that would be fitting.

Upon first meeting...
I knew I liked him from the beginning. I've never been one for believing in love at first sight, but this might have been close. He came into the YMCA to get re-hired after just returning from his mission. He was (and still is) a tall, handsome man with an adorable smile (dimples!) and a mischievous look in his eyes. I was the one charged with making sure he was suitably certified to complete duties as a lifeguard. He was charming and flirtatious with me, and I was helpless to that charm. I've never fallen for anyone so fast; I still remember the day I came home all jittery to tell my mom I had a crush. Its been quite the journey since then.
